Two Approaches to Acid Reflux Cure
There’s a lot you can do that works as an acid reflux cure. The options range from standby folks remedies to new potent medications. Here’s a quick rundown about the rationale behind the different acid reflux treatments.
To begin, it helps to remember that acid reflux refers to acid from the stomach backing up into the esophagus. The stomach has a special line that protects it from this acid; the esophagus doesn’t. Because of this, the acid damages the esophagus and causes the symptoms we associate with reflux.
With that in mind, I think you can see that some of the treatment options would involve avoiding anything that might make it more likely that the stomach content would back up into the esophagus and neutralize the acid so it’s not as irritating if it does happen.
Eating habits greatly affect how likely reflux is to happen and how severe it is if it does. Eating a large meal greatly increased the pressure and stomach and makes reflux more likely. Eating foods that are acids themselves increases the severity of the problem for most people.
Common sense tells you that eating small meals and staying away from common trigger foods such as tomato sauce well prevent problems.
Another mechanical factor to remember is gravity. If you’re sitting upright or standing, the stomach content has to go uphill to reflux into the esophagus. On the other hand if you lie down when you stomach is full, it’s much easier for the stomach acid to flow into the esophagus.
This is a reason that many people have problems with reflux at night, especially if they eat shortly before going to bed. People suffering from reflux can minimize the problems at night by not eating for lease a few hours before retiring. They can also benefit from owning the head of the bed by putting a few inches of blocks under the legs or by using a specially designed acid reflux wedge pillow.
Another logical step to curing acid reflux is reducing when neutralizing the acid. you probably have the original and acid in your kitchen cupboard: old-fashioned baking soda. However if you use too much of this it can cause electrolyte problems. Today you’re better off using some liquid antacid from a drugstore.
For the last couple of decades, we’ve had medications that prevent the acid from being produced in the first place. The first class of these drugs were called H2 blockers. An example is Tagamet. New medications block even more acid from being produced.
This is just a brief summary of possible acid reflux cures. There’s a lot more you can learn and I suggest that you do. Information applied is power, and more you know the better off you’ll be.
